How We Build for How We Buy

To make sense of the rapidly evolving commerce tech landscape, Greylock is launching a new #Greymatter podcast series focused entirely on the sector. The series will be hosted by Greylock General Partner Mike Duboe, who previously led growth at Stitch Fix and now partners with entrepreneurs across commerce, marketplaces, and network-oriented businesses. In the first episode, Mike sat down with Steve Sewell, co-founder and CEO of Builder.io, who provides a commerce-oriented headless CMS with full drag & drop no-code editing, and Jordan Gal, founder of CartHook, who builds checkout optimization and post-purchase upsell software for Shopify stores. ‘An investable opportunity’: Greylock’s Mike Duboe on why he’s focusing on Shopify’s partner ecosystem and headless commerce

Consumer facing brands have been receiving a bunch of attention for years now, but there’s a growing group of companies powering them that are also getting a second look. The companies making digital infrastructures easier and more powerful for retailers and brands stand to profit from the new e-commerce landscape. Greylock’s Mike Duboe told Modern Retail that these are the types of companies he’s focusing on. While other VCs try to find the next Warby Parker, he’s instead looking for a back-end company that makes the e-commerce channel more robust. Duboe spoke with Modern Retail about his overall investing thesis and what has changed over the last nine months. (Modern Retail)
